Department values statement

The School of Music is dedicated to the sustenance and advancement of musical cultures found in the academy and in society at large, recognizing the expanding character of musical arts in contemporary life and meeting the challenges of this development with imagination and positive action. The School’s vision for itself is to be an internationally recognized unit that consistently attracts world-class faculty, students, and guests. We believe that all faculty should participate in the recruitment, retention, and mentorship of all students, depending on area needs. We aspire to leadership roles in the teaching, research, performance and advancement of music. The School of Music holds engagement with and accessibility to the performing arts as core values.
