Departmental promotion committee versus departmental consulting group (DCG)
 Departmental Promotion CommitteeDepartmental Consulting Group (DCG)
Composition
  • Appointed by the DEO
  • Consists of at least 4 faculty members eligible to vote on the decision
  • Chair is appointed by DEO as well
  • Consists of all faculty members of the candidate’s department at higher academic ranks than the candidate’s current rank (with some exceptions, see DCG composition under CLAS Promotion Procedures)
  • Members of the Departmental Promotion Committee that are external to the department must also serve on the DCG

  • Summarizes the dossier
  • States the facts
  • Analyzes the dossier and evaluates if candidate meets criteria for promotion
