Dear CLAS Faculty and Staff,

We are gathering information as UI applies for re-designation of the Carnegie Foundation’s classification in Community Engagement. This classification honors institutions that demonstrate a strong commitment to their public purpose, and as you know, community engagement is central to the University of Iowa’s strategic vision.

We are asking for your help in collecting information specific to CLAS faculty and staff efforts in community engagement last year (AY 2023-24) and this year (AY 2024-2025).

Please take just a few minutes to reply with information about your recent community engagement activities supported by grants, or for which you have submitted pending or even unfunded grant applications. For each project, include:

  • Name of faculty or staff member leading the initiative
  • Project title
  • Funding agency and grant status (Awarded, Pending, or Not Funded)
  • Project Dates
  • Brief (1-2 sentence) description of the project

Please email this information to both Liz Mendez-Shannon and Carmen Langel by Wednesday, November 27, 2024. We’ll be in touch if we need more information about your submitted projects.

Thank you so much for your assistance!

Liz Mendez-Shannon, Carnegie Community Engagement Classification Leadership Committee

And

Carmen Langel, Director, CLAS Grant Support Office
