Undergraduate Academic Deadlines for Summer 2026

CLAS will adhere to the Registrar’s Academic Calendar for undergraduate course adds, course drops, and withdrawals. Thank you for keeping your undergraduate students informed about academic deadlines.

Summer has five sessions (four-week, six-week I, eight-week, six-week II, and twelve-week), each with its own add and drop/withdrawal deadlines. You can look up session deadlines here and individual course deadlines here.

Online Add Procedures

  • Students can add courses through MyUI/MAUI. The process is described here.
  • Instructors should ensure all students attending are properly registered for the course. Please do not add students to ICON if they are not registered for the course. ICON access is automatically granted to the student overnight after they have finalized the course add.
  • Please check your class lists and refer any student not properly registered by the add deadline to CLAS Undergraduate Programs (CLAS UP) (clas-undergrad@uiowa.edu or 319-335-2633). The student will need authorization in MyUI/MAUI from both the course instructor/department and their primary academic advisor prior to requesting collegiate authorization for a late add.

Dropping summer session courses

  • Students may drop individual summer session courses with authorization from their primary academic advisor by the deadline using the online drop process. The process is described here.
  • Deadlines to drop individual summer session courses without collegiate authorization are:
    • 4-week summer session – June 1
    • 6-week I summer session – June 15
    • 8-week summer session – July 27
    • 6-week II summer session – July 27
    • 12-week summer session – July 21
  • The mark of W will appear on the student’s transcript. Ws are neutral marks that do not affect a student’s GPA.
  • Please refer students with questions to CLAS UP (clas-undergrad@uiowa.edu or 319-335-2633). CLAS UP will consider requests from students who wish to drop a summer course after the corresponding deadline. See this page for more information about requesting a course drop after the deadline.

Withdrawal from summer session

  • A student dropping their only summer course would be withdrawing from the entire summer 2026 session.
  • A student will be unable to add any other summer session course unless it is added prior to completing the withdrawal process. The student would then need to drop the appropriate course (see above) while remaining enrolled in at least one other summer session course.
  • Please refer students with questions to CLAS UP (clas-undergrad@uiowa.edu or 319-335-2633). CLAS UP will consider requests from CLAS students who wish to withdraw from summer session after the deadline. See this page for more information about requesting a withdrawal after the deadline.
