How are you designing course assignments in the age of AI?

Have you developed a successful assignment that incorporates AI to promote student learning? Have you re-designed assignments to prevent students’ misuse of AI and foster critical thinking?

As part of the third annual CLAS Teaching Excellence Showcase, the college plans to bring together faculty to share their experiences with designing course assignments in the age of AI and to promote teaching excellence. The CLAS Teaching Excellence Showcase will be held on Friday, Oct. 23, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. More information on the event to follow soon!

CLAS is therefore seeking proposals for “flash presentations” (3-5 minutes) around the theme of “Designing Course Assignments in the Age of AI.” · The proposal should be 200 words or less and should be submitted to clas-curriculum@uiowa.edu by Friday, Sept. 25.

  • Your proposal should introduce an assignment you have designed, or re-designed, in response to the challenge and opportunity of AI that you hope to share at the CLAS Teaching Excellence Showcase.
  • Your proposal should explain what other instructors might learn from your experience.

We welcome proposals that take a variety of stances toward AI and its place in the classroom. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to share your experience and highlight your teaching. We are looking forward to hearing from you! If you have questions, please reach out to clas-curriculum@uiowa.edu.
