As the September 15 effective date approaches for the new U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rule establishing a fixed period of admission for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors, International Student & Scholar Services, alongside our colleagues in the Graduate College, University Human Resources, and the Office of the General Counsel, continue to review the rule and the impact it has for our campus community.

We have added new frequently asked questions to the fixed period of admission rule webpage. Many of these updates respond directly to questions raised by students, scholars, faculty, and staff during our first webinar in August. We encourage you to review the updated FAQs for the latest information about how the rule may affect F and J students and scholars.

Please do not provide immigration advice and continue to direct students to International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) for support and to schedule a virtual or in-person advising session.

Join us for a second webinar and Q&A on Thursday, September 17, at 3 p.m. via Zoom. The webinar will provide an opportunity to review the latest information and address additional questions you may have.

Directors of Graduate Studies and other faculty and staff engaged in graduate education should contact Ana Rodríguez-Rodríguez, associate dean for academic affairs in the Graduate College, with questions about academic programs.
