In spring 2025, CLAS Senior Leadership worked with DEOs, administrators, and the CLAS Executive Committee to define faculty standards of competence and performance for all ranks of regular faculty (tenure-track, instructional-track, and clinical-track).

These serve as the baseline expectations for faculty appointments and should be used during the annual review process. During the 2025-26 academic year, departments created supplements to clarify how the collegiate standards will be applied and evaluated. The documents have been approved by the Provost’s Office and are now published on the CLAS resource website: Faculty Standards of Competence and Performance.
