Jennifer Bertrand, PhD, is Director of Academic Policies and Student Services in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) at the University of Iowa. In this role, she provides leadership and consultation on academic policies, standards, and procedures, working closely with students, faculty, staff, and university partners to address complex academic issues and support student success. She also serves as the college's Interdepartmental Studies Coordinator and oversees undergraduate records, academic standards, academic misconduct, and world language satisfaction processes.

Jennifer has worked at the University of Iowa since 2005. Prior to becoming Director, she held positions of increasing responsibility in CLAS Undergraduate Programs, serving as Associate Director and Senior Associate Director before assuming her current role. She previously served as Director of Admissions and pre-pharmacy advisor in the College of Pharmacy. Earlier roles in academic advising, college teaching, and student services administration have given her a broad perspective on higher education and expertise in helping students navigate a variety of academic pathways.

Jennifer believes that clear expectations, transparent processes, and thoughtful communication are essential to student success. She strives to help students and campus partners understand policies, evaluate available options, and make informed decisions. Her approach emphasizes consistency, fairness, collaboration, and practical problem-solving while recognizing that each student's circumstances are unique.

Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Hampshire and a PhD from Oregon State University. She completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Her areas of expertise include academic policy, student records, academic standards, advising practice, and cross-campus coordination of student support processes.
