Applicability
Open to full-time School of Music tenure-track or tenured faculty. Instructional track faculty may apply only if research, scholarship, and/or creative activity in music composition and performance is assigned as one of their primary job responsibilities. All applicants must coordinate with the Director of the School of Music before applying. There will be a Fall and a Spring application cycle coordinated by the Director.
Policy purpose and description
Recognizing that the cost of sound recordings sometimes falls at least partially on the shoulders of faculty, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides a limited amount of funding for subventions. These funds are prioritized for items essential to the production of the recording such as hall rental, engineering and mastering, obligatory distribution costs, and permissions/royalties. Funds are limited, and all awards will require contribution from the School of Music. Total support may not be sufficient to cover all costs.
Definitions
Subvention: The provision of assistance of financial support.
Procedure
The College requires that the faculty member submit a Workflow application form. The School of Music Director must approve the application via Workflow and route to the Dean’s Office.
Proposals will be prioritized according to the following criteria:
- The project’s originality and potential contribution to the field.
- How the project supports the core creative work of the applicant and contributes to the applicant’s career development (i.e. visibility and stature in the field).
- The suitability of the distribution venue.
