In the fall of 2025, the departments of Geographical and Sustainability Sciences (GSS) and Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES), along with the Environmental Sciences program and the Sustainability certificate program, will combine in a new School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability (SEES). This reorganization will build on and strengthen the areas of climate, environmental, and sustainability science and policy at the University of Iowa.

As part of this merger, we have created a new course subject code, SEES. All existing courses in EES, ENVS, GEOG, and SUST have been moved into the SEES code, and some courses have received new numbers and names. Some courses have been merged or dropped to streamline duplicate offerings (for example, so we don't have three courses called "First-Year Seminar," "Senior Thesis," or "Interdisciplinary Seminar"). Students who have declared the existing programs of study in these areas will be able to complete their programs, and their degree audits are being updated to ensure they receive the right credit for their courses, even as those courses are moved and renumbered. To assist students in finding the courses they need, here is a list of every course that has been moved/renumbered, with its new course subject and number.

As always, students should consult with their Academic Advisors with any questions about course selection.
