As the largest college within the University of Iowa, CLAS supports a wide set of websites. To better serve all audiences and comply with federal law, the accessibility of these sites is our responsibility to maintain and support.

CLAS Marketing and Communications supported websites

Includes clas.uiowa.edu and subdomains (*.clas.uiowa.edu and *.uiowa.edu)

The main clas.uiowa.edu site, its subdomains (*.clas.uiowa.edu), and all third-level domains focused on marketing and promoting the college and its departments (*.uiowa.edu) have accessibility monitored and managed by a combination of groups, including the CLAS Marcom team and unit-based web editors.

Unit-managed websites

Includes sites that support research and education in CLAS (*.lab.uiowa.edu, *.studio.uiowa.edu, *.center.uiowa.edu, etc.)

Websites that are specific to a given department or unit and are prioritized to exclusively support the research or educational missions of the organization are the responsibility of the website owner. CLAS Marcom and CLAS TS recommend these resources to support accessibility efforts on these websites.

Support accessibility of CLAS MarCom websites

The accessibility of marketing and communications website content on clas.uiowa.edu, *.clas.uiowa.edu, and *.uiowa.edu websites in CLAS is being monitored and supported by the CLAS Marcom Web Team.

We will reach out to units and departments individually to ask for support on updating documents (.doc, .pdf, etc.) used on these sites. Learn more about document accessibility from ITS.

Unit-managed website accessibility responsibilities and resources

As a website owner or content manager, you are responsible for ensuring your site meets all university digital requirements, including:

  • Full compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
  • Creating accessible pages, documents, images, and multimedia
  • Addressing accessibility findings in a timely manner
  • Integrating accessible design practices into new content

These are essential responsibilities—not only for legal compliance, but for ensuring that all students, faculty, staff, and visitors can fully interact with university content.

To support you in maintaining full accessibility compliance, we’ve assembled the following resources to guide you in keeping your unit‑managed website aligned with best practices and institutional expectations. We advise you to start by reviewing this article from OSC on how to ensure ADA Title II compliance for your Iowa website.
