Please see this information from the Office of Community Engagement:

Following a successful introductory workshop on Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) held earlier this month, the Office of Community Engagement is excited to offer a second in-depth workshop on the nuts and bolts of CBPR on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 12:00 - 1:30 pm. The session will be in person in the University Capitol Centre, room 2520D (Seminar Room, 2nd floor), and will provide an opportunity for deeper conversations about issues of importance in CBPR.

Led by CBPR experts from across campus, participants will discuss the dynamics of community partnerships, mechanics of community partner compensation, CBPR and IRB, and securing grants and funding for CBPR. Space is limited and registration for the workshop is required.

CBPR Workshop Details:

This Community-Based Participatory Research workshop will be an interactive, hands-on session that will include in-depth discussions about 4 key topics within CBPR. These topics include:

  • Dynamics in community partnerships: explore how power dynamics, trust and relationship building can impact community partnership development
  • Compensation for community partners: discuss mechanisms for ensuring that community partners and stakeholders are valued and compensated appropriately in CBPR
  • Internal Review Board (IRB): learn about the role of IRB in CBPR and how to ensure your research development process is successful
  • Grants and funding: explore opportunities to fund your CBPR work collaboratively with community partners

Workshop participants will explore these topics in small groups led by CBPR experts on campus. The workshop format will give participants the opportunity to engage with other researchers on campus, ask questions, and consider how to apply procedures and processes to their own research. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
