Please consider volunteering to help with commencement and come celebrate our graduates. Fall commencement will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024. This is a later date than usual, so if you are available, please sign up. We anticipate recruiting volunteers will be more challenging this semester with the late ceremony.
Volunteers will receive:
- Flex-time equal to time spent volunteering
- Free parking at Carver-Hawkeye arena
- Snacks and beverages during the ceremony
- Invitation to attend a thank-you lunch with Dean Sanders at a later date
This is an inspiring day, well-attended by students, families, and supporters.
Volunteer roles:
- Card Hand-Out: Volunteers at the card hand-out areas help graduates find their name cards, or, in some cases, have graduates fill out a name card.
- Honors and Distinction: Volunteers stationed on the floor assist students who have questions about graduating with honors and distinction.
- Marshal: Volunteers stationed on the floor who help guide students during the ceremony by releasing rows for the presentation of graduates.
- Program Hand-Out: Volunteers stationed at tables where graduates pick up order of events and commencement programs.
- Usher: Volunteers stationed at each card hand-out area direct graduates to take a seat in their suggested seating block after they have picked up their name card.
- Wayfinder: Volunteers stationed near venue entrances have venue maps and assist graduates and guests with finding their way to seating areas.
Dress is business casual.
