Would you like to consider ways to enhance teaching and learning in your context? The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) is a scholarly practice in which instructors use their research expertise to conduct systematic inquiries into students’ learning and share their findings for other scholars to further build on. Whether you conduct a SoTL study yourself or simply discover the joy of reading SoTL studies, SoTL can be an impactful framework for improving your teaching and students’ learning. The UI strategic plan recognizes the value of SoTL in empowering instructors and nurturing student success, and campus leaders have asked the Center for Teaching to organize a series of campus-wide SoTL Institutes.
The first SoTL Institute will be held on Friday, October 18, from 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. Join us as we explore the impact and potential of SoTL to improve teaching and learning with keynote speaker Professor Peter Felten (Elon University), co-author of the forthcoming book The SoTL Guide, and special guest SoTL expert Professor Johan Geertsema (National University of Singapore). Members of the Iowa community can also share their teaching scholarship in a poster session.
