Branding and writing guidelines

Your website is the front door for your audiences and peers. And your application of the Iowa brand is a key component in providing a high-quality, effective, and consistent digital experience. As a public institution, it is important to follow best practices for our websites and ensure our digital properties are aligned to provide a positive and inclusive user experience.

Accessibility guidelines

As a content editor or manager, it's important that you are aware of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and follow best practices for presenting and formatting your content. This ensures it is useable and accessible to anyone who visits your website, including people who may need any type of assistive device to experience your website content. The University of Iowa has made a commitment to web accessibility and has resources available to assist you as you build and edit your site.

Drupal documentation

Websites supported by the CLAS Marketing and Communications team are operating in the university's SiteNow Drupal 9 or 10 content management system. SiteNow allows users to build high-quality websites quickly that are reliably hosted, secure, and supported. All CLAS If you are currently using SiteNow, you can browse this library of documented guides to help answer questions or troubleshoot issues as you manage your website.

UI Web Community

In addition to our CLAS-specific website documentation, the UI Office of Strategic Communication provides live and recoded training to help you learn how to best manage your website. As part of the larger UI Web Community, we encourage you to participate in these trainings and other knowledge sharing opportunities on a regular basis.
